Valentine's Day

I always dread this time of year. Valentine's Day has always made me uncomfortable for myself and others. I don't like the expectation of doing nice things for people (especially flowers for your girlfriend or spouse). I don't like hearing how disappointed people are when their special someone doesn't surprise them with something great. I firmly believe that if a person wants to be sweet, then the day when the world says you must do it, is not the best time. Jon and I have never celebrated Valentine's Day..the reason being..we should love each other every day of the year not when we think we're forced to show affection through gifts.

We have friends who are completely taking advantage of Valentine's Day as a time to show love to others..not just a mushy, gushy, romantic type of love, but a true brotherly love. So..why not? Actually...step back a second..why can't we do this every day of the year? So..instead of making one day special..let's love others with the love of Jesus every day. Let's plan to surprise people with thoughtfulness, gifts or acts of service all year long! Don't wait for a holiday to come around to do something special...surprises are great and much more memorable! :)

"..we must stop loving in word and in tongue, but instead love in action and in truth." 1 John 3:18. So..don't wait around for someone to do something special for you..love in ACTION..you should love others with the love of Jesus on Valentine's Day AND every other day of the year.
